Tens of millions of working Americans aren’t paid enough to live on.
Therefore, the government provides them with around $250 BILLION each year in social welfare benefits, paid for by the ordinary American taxpayer.
If businesses were forced to pay their own workers a decent wage, taxpayers would save many tens of billions of dollars each year in reduced government spending.
Raising the American minimum wage to $12.00 per hour would achieve this. Businesses should stand on their own two feet rather than shift their costs to the taxpayer.
Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are willing to consider the large wage hike that American workers need. Only the people can get it done.
One-eighth of all Americans live in California and California is the only large state in which the voters themselves can place a $12.00 per hour minimum wage initiative on the November 2014 ballot.
We have now filed our Higher Wages for California Workers initiative and will begin gathering signatures in late January.
If enough California voters sign our petitions and vote for the initiative on election day, every worker in California will be paid at least $12.00 per hour and American taxpayers will save many billions of dollars from reduced social welfare spending.
It’s up to all of you!
Who Are We and What Do We Say?
My name is Ron Unz and I’m the founder of The Higher Wages Alliance, which is sponsoring the California ballot initiative aimed at raising the state’s minimum wage to $12.00 per hour.
Some of my ideas on the subject are presented in these recent pieces from The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, and since 2011 I’ve published over twenty articles and columns on the subject, amounting to around 30,000 words.
More information about my views and my background may be found here.
There are many different reasons for raising the minimum wage to $12.00, some of which appeal to liberals and some to conservatives. But the important thing is that we all work together to get the job done.
